MariNova Consulting Ltd. specializes in a broad range of marine transportation consulting services. We have many years of experience in port marketing, container shipping, ferry services and the cruise industry. We are also beginning to work in the area of port divestiture and privatization, in which we have first-hand experience.
MariNova has twenty years of hard-nosed experience in various aspects of the shipping and port industries. Along with our strategic partners, we provide creative solutions and thinking, based on real industry experience, not theory. We give you practical, do-able options.
MariNova is headed by James (Jim) Frost, B.A., M.A., M.B.A. He is a marketing and business development specialist, experienced in port marketing, container shipping, cruise and ferry operations. He has been involved in a number of start-ups, having developed and managed a container feeder service as well as a new cruise product.
Mr. Frost is well versed in recent trends in world shipping and how ports and shipping lines can exploit them to their fullest advantage. He has also developed strategies to significantly increase traffic on government-owned and operated ferry services.
Mr. Frost started his career as Director of Marketing with the Halifax-Dartmouth Port Development Commission. While there he gained considerable insight into the container shipping industry, developing strategies to double the Port of Halifax's throughput over a seven year period. He also developed the best data base of any Canadian port, and initiated a shipper sales program, unique to the industry at that time. He was instrumental in developing the port's 'Emerging Giant advertising campaign, which positioned the port within the context of round- the-world services, G3 vessels and international load centres.
As Marketing Manager for Marine Atlantic, a large government-owned ferry service operating throughout Atlantic Canada, Mr. Frost developed a much-acclaimed new cruise product, "Cruising Labrador", using the company's under utilized capacity.
Prior to joining Marine Atlantic, Mr. Frost managed a container feeder / transhipment service operating between the traditional trading links of Halifax and Boston. This service was the result of a marketing and feasibility study which he co-authored.
